Election night concert

9th May 2010

Our last concert was in Hammersmith, with Michael Chance and Nick Daniel. The programme was the same as for King’s College, Cambridge last November - Gibbons, Purcell, Tavener’s The Hidden Face, and Sally Beamish’s marvellous ‘Divan’, a setting of Sufi mystic Hafez. Hafez is the best-known Persian poet, and some of the concert was filmed by the BBC Iranian TV service for part of a documentary. We look forward to seeing it when it is edited later in the year.

When the concert was over, we saw the early exit polls; and were invited for supper and drinks by a relative of Tennyson.
